Featured Student of January
Meet Nitika Gupta, a happy DAT Bootcamp customer who recently conquered the DAT. I’ve asked Nitika to share her DAT experience with us as the featured student of January.
What is one piece of advice you would give to another student preparing to take the DAT?
The most important thing I could say is to stay focused. Try staying away from distractions as much as possible and keep yourself motivated. There’s going to be days where time goes by fast and you realize you’ve been studying for ten hours or days where you don’t get the score you want, but don’t let that stop you. Thousands of people have taken the DAT and thousands of people have conquered it, you’re just next in line. If possible, try finding a schedule that fits the type of student you are and then stick to that 100%.
Also, be honest with yourself. If there’s a topic you don’t understand, don’t ignore it because you don’t feel like going through it again. If there’s a section that you’re consistently getting a low score on, practice it. Don’t convince yourself that you may get lucky on the DAT and score higher. The score you get on your practice tests is a reflection of the score you will get on your DAT.
How did you use DAT Bootcamp to prepare for the DAT?
DAT Bootcamp was actually the only thing I used to prepare for the DAT. I went online and looked for different ways to study for the DAT and found that DAT Bootcamp had the best results and seemed to fit the type of student I am. From there, I followed the ten-week schedule exactly and went through flash cards every single night.
The layout of the ten-week schedule is perfect for a student who wants a high DAT score. Going through the material for the first 4-5 weeks and then practice questions for the next 4-5 weeks is the best way to prepare for the DAT. Going through everything you need to know then testing your knowledge six days a week really helps you get used to the questions and memorize crucial information that consistently pops up. Lastly, the practice tests provided by DAT Bootcamp are key to getting a high DAT score. The questions and layout of the exam is almost identical to the real DAT and the best way to estimate your score.
Also, I made use of DAT Bootcamp’s PAT practice questions a lot. I practiced all six sections of PAT for 15-20 minutes everyday and wrote down my score. At first it was hard, frustrating, and confusing, but over time and with the variety of questions DAT Bootcamp provides, the PAT section became simple. With more than 100 questions for each section of PAT and helpful videos and tips, your score will raise dramatically. PAT is all about practice and DAT Bootcamp provides you the practice you need.
What would you do differently to prepare for the DAT?
I wish I gave more time to the General Chemistry section of the DAT. Surprisingly, that was the hardest section of the DAT for me. General Chemistry in college was a breeze for me, but Organic Chemistry was somewhat difficult so I gave more attention to the Organic Chemistry section. However, my score shows that General Chemistry was a weak section. General Chemistry, or any subject of the DAT in fact, is different from a class you have taken in college. It is vital to go over the information and do as many practice questions as possible. This is the time to give it your all, so don’t try cutting it short by saying, “I’m good at General Chemistry, I don’t need to study it that much”. This is the time to put in 100%.
The average scores of my Bootcamp practice tests are almost identical to my real DAT score. DAT Bootcamp’s practice was a good estimate of my actual DAT score.
