Meet Jasmin Gosey, a happy DAT Bootcamp customer who recently conquered the DAT. I’ve asked Jasmin to share her DAT experience with us as the featured student of July.

What is one piece of advice you would give to another student preparing to take the DAT?

Planning is so important to the process of studying for the DAT. It’s important to read the instructions for the test and get a general feel for the test. Making a schedule is necessary. I would not have been able to stay on track without one. I looked at multiple schedules other people made, including the DAT Bootcamp schedule. Then, I made a schedule that worked best for me considering I studied for the DAT during a school semester.

Also, make time for yourself to rest or go out with friends. Being healthy and happy is just as important as studying for the test because those things can affect your memory. I go to a very fun school. I went out on Saturdays and studied the rest of the week. Taking break days to do something fun kept me from burning out while studying.

How did you use DAT Bootcamp to prepare for the DAT?

After I completed each practice test, I reviewed what I missed or what I was confused on. I made sure I understood why an answer choice was correct, why the others were wrong, and under what conditions the wrong answers would have been right. The PAT section of DAT Bootcamp was great! I reviewed my missed answers for the PAT section the same way I did for the natural sciences section. I picked the one or two sections of the PAT I struggled with the most and practiced those throughout the week until I took my next PAT practice test. I used Scientific American and the practice reading tests for reading. I read 4-5 paragraphs, made quick notes, and answered questions until I finished the passage. Then, I answered the questions about tone and purpose.

What would you do differently to prepare for the DAT?

I would have prepared better the first time I scheduled my test. I rushed the first time and thought I could study for the test in 3 weeks. I just bought some books and did not make a schedule. You know yourself well; consider how long it will take you to study and make the score you want when making a study schedule.

Also, treat studying for the test like a marathon and not a sprint. Take your time to learn the information.
