Featured Student of November
Meet McKinlee Ward, a happy DAT Bootcamp customer who recently conquered the DAT. I’ve asked McKinlee to share her DAT experience with us as the featured student of November.
What is one piece of advice you would give to another student preparing to take the DAT?
Make sure you give yourself enough time to study. When I began studying I was so overwhelmed by the amount of material that after 2 weeks I pushed back my date. This helped me to be less stressed and to be able to study more effectively knowing that I would have enough time to learn and practice the material.
How did you use DAT Bootcamp to prepare for the DAT?
I followed a slightly shortened version of the DAT Bootcamp 10 week study plan. It made it so easy to know exactly what I needed to accomplish each day. I think the best thing that Bootcamp offers are the practice tests. I went through each subject test multiple times, learning through the questions, and I also used it to take 5 full length practice tests the week leading up to the DAT so that on test day I knew exactly how to pace myself. Bootcamp reading tests and PAT generators were hands-down the best tools to study for those sections.
What would you do differently to prepare for the DAT?
I would have mastered the material more before I began doing practice questions. In my shortened study plan I cut out time of learning material instead of practice days. Not being familiar with the material made practice questions less effective for me.
Also, I let the DAT completely consume me. I studied for 6 – 9 hours a day and when I wasn’t studying it was constantly on my mind. Find good outlets for your stress and make sure to plan time everyday to have fun and exercise. It would have made studying a much easier experience for me and my family and friends.
